Logging your Dive
The PADI App is your official digital logbook. Log your fun dives yourself and have your buddy confirm them wherever possible. A PADI Pro verification by QR code is optional and can be added on the spot or later. An unverified log is still a valid dive.
How to log a fun dive
- Open the PADI App and sign in. Download the free PADI App (App Store or Google Play) and sign in with the PADI account your certification is attached to.
- Go to Logbook and tap +. Tap Logbook, then the blue + in the top right, and choose Recreational. (Training dives are a separate option and are verified by your instructor, not a guide.)
- Fill in the dive. Dive site (search "Julian Rocks" then pick the site, e.g. The Cod Hole, The Needles, Hugo's Trench), date, max depth, bottom time, water temperature and visibility from your computer or the briefing board. Add your buddy's name and Sundive Byron Bay as the dive centre. Your buddy is the person who was actually with you on the dive, so where possible have them check and confirm your entry, and do the same for theirs.
- Save it. Tap Save. Your dive now counts in your logbook total.
- Want a Pro verification as well? Scan the QR code below. A buddy confirmation is the standard way to vouch for a fun dive. If you also want the verified tick in the app, open the dive entry, choose Verify and scan the code. You can do this on the boat, in the shop, or at home later if you forgot. It works any time after the dive. Only PADI Pros can verify in the PADI App, so if your guide was from another agency, this code is the one to use.

Good to know
Did a course with us? Open Water, Advanced and Specialty training dives are logged under Training in the app and verified by the instructor who taught you, by QR code or by submitting the dive for review. Fun dives on the same day go under Recreational.
Using the MySSI app? SSI dives can only be verified by an SSI Pro or SSI Training Centre. Ask on the boat whether your guide is SSI certified. If not, log the dive as unverified with your buddy's name, which is fine for fun dives.
Paper logbook? Bring it to the shop and we will stamp it.
