It has been named “The Best Shark Dive in the World” and with good reason. Beqa Lagoon off the main island of Viti Levu in Fiji is a shark lover paradise and the local operators have developed over the years some outstanding baited dive experiences to get up close and personal to many different shark species in a very safe setup. Add to that some stunning coral reefs and a delightful tropical resort stay just a short flight away from Australia.
We have tailored with Dive Adventures a special combo trip for Sundive to spend 5 nights at Beqa Lagoon Resort on Beqa Island and 3 nights in Pacific Harbour to be able to maximize the variety of shark encounters and experience Fiji’s outstanding coral reefs.
We will start our stay on Beqa Island about 20 kilometers off the cost of Viti Levu on the outer side of Beqa Lagoon. Beqa lagoon resort has exclusive access to many of Beqa Island dive sites and their unique shark dive at the “Cathedral”. The dive team from Beqa Lagoon Resort developed this baited dive about 5 years ago. The location and setup was finetuned to enable close encounters with TIGER SHARKS. They are the hero of the show are consistently seen on every in two or more. Up to 8 tigers were seen on one dive. Many other shark species like bull, lemon, nurse, silvertip, grey reef often join the show as well as thousands of reef fish.
We will get a minimum of 2 days of shark diving ( 4 shark dives) during our stay and possibly one more day for the keenest shark divers in the group
On non shark diving days we will explore some of the outstanding pristine reefs surrounding Beqa Island with 2 boat dives per day. The very healthy hard and soft coral reefs are teeming with fish life, turtles and many macro critters.
The resort also offers unlimited day and night dives on its house reef that can be done after the boat dives.
After 5 amazing days on Beqa Island we’ll move back to Pacific Harbour on the mainland side of Viti Levu to get ready to experience the famous classic Beqa Shark Dive. This is the original shark dive initiated over 15 years ago and perfected over the years. Some of the Fijian divers who started this still work with the team at Beqa Adventure Divers and really know the sharks by name. This is an incredible multilevel baited dive featuring as a top highlight the most breathtaking close encounters with tens of huge bull sharks at the deeper feeding “arena”. This is followed by some fun with grey reef and white tip sharks half way up and finally a shallow feed with white and black tip reef sharks. Tiger sharks are occasionally seen on this dive but the sheer number of bulls tends to keep them away.
We will have 2 consecutive days experiencing the shark dive ( 4 dives in total).
This trip is extremely suitable for non-diver partners or family. The coral reefs around Beqa Island can be enjoyed also snorkelling and kayaks and paddle boards are available to use daily.
From both Beqa Lagoon Resort and Pacific Harbour there are many land excursions available. You can walk to waterfalls and trek up local mountains through the lush rainforest, rafting etc. Fiji is also very rich of local culture and visits to local villages and markets will be organized as well as cultural experiences.
This is a really fantastic trip for underwater photographers as the sharks interactions are very close, enabling outstanding photo opportunities.
Sundive owners and experienced shark photographers Simone Caprodossi and David Robinson will offer coaching and guidance the get the best shark images out of this trip.
Unlimited reef diving on Beqa Island will also offer great opportunities to practice both wide angle and macro underwater photography on the pristine coral refs on day and night dives.
