Sundive Photo Shoot-Out 2010: All winning photos and videos are now displayed on our shoot-out page. On 30 May 2010, the winners of the Sundive Byron Bay Photo Shoot-Out were announced during the Grand Finale of the competition at the Buddha Bar in Byron Bay. The doors opened at 2pm and the competitors were buzzing with excitement, eager to find out who would take home the beautiful trophies and fantastic prizes. After a short introduction by John Natoli, a big thank you to all sponsors and competitors by Sundive owner Giac Cavazzini, the claiming of all treasure hunt prizes and a prize raffle, it was finally time to announce this year’s winners. We started off with the video category. No surprises there, Kieren Curry, outstanding videographer and man behind Divearound.com.au won himself another first prize. Best DSLR Photo was won by Chris Hamilton, last year’s surprise winner, who took home the first Rodney Fox Live-aboard trip for her incredible shot of a sea urchin and also won the 2nd prize in Best Portfolio DSLR. Runner-up for Best Photo DSLR was Michael Gallagher with his beautiful portrait of a Loggerhead, a very unusual object for a Macro shot. Best DSLR Portfolio was won by Matthew Shepherd who is fairly new to underwater photography and also won second prices in the categories Best Wide-Angle Shot and Best Macro Shot. First prizes in those categories went to Matti Ovaska (Best Macro) and again Michael Gallagher (Best Wide-Angle). In the compact categories, Jim Dodd of Ocean Guardians won Best Photo and took home the second Rodney Fox Live-aboard trip for an amazing shot of his wife Cherie with a Ghost Pipefish. Best Portfolio Compact went to Catherine Marshall who showed a great variety and some amazing shots for a compact camera.
